Autumn Local History Walks and Talks

This season we are launching two brand new historical walking and cycling guides. King Coal and Smoke in the Valley are specially commissioned illustrated histories of the areas of Bulwell, Basford and Bestwood.

We have scheduled three walks and an illustrated talk to introduce the guides. Our Autumn history programme will also see a re-run of the Number 35 bus tour for those who missed it last time, plus an exciting walking event taking in the restoration of St Martin’s Church in Bilborough.

You’ll be able to pick up copies of the guides at your local library soon, or if you cant wait you can download them here: King Coal and Smoke in the Valley.

A Walk Between Churches – Friday 26th September 1pm

Discover the major restoration work taking place at the historic St Martin’s church in Bilborough. Thanks to a Heritage Lottery grant, this process is restoring the church’s medieval footprint and revealing two nationally important murals painted by war artist Evelyn Gibbs in 1946 and partially painted over in the 1970’s. This walk will finish at St Martin’s for a special tour of the building and paintings led by master conservators. A must for anyone interested in conservation or art history.

Meet at All Saints Church, Strelley.
