We’ve got an all-new programme of local history events across the summer so book your places now to avoid disappointment!

All the events are free and we recommend booking in advance – you can contact us or book direct through the links below.

An Industrial Trail: Vernon Road to Stockhill LaneIndustrial Trail walk
This walk follows the heyday of bleaching & dyeing, textiles and their influence on the changing landscapes of this area of north Nottingham. It also looks at the development of housing and estates, especially Stockhill Lane. Led by archivist Chris Weir.

Bestwood Mining walkBestwood Mining Walk

Learn about the history of Bestwood Colliery, enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent Winding Engine House and a walk around Bestwood Country Park.

Aspley walkAspley, Broxtowe and Cinderhill on foot

Using the history guide as a starting point, historian Chris Matthews will lead  you on a leisurely guided group walk.

An event for all the family. There will be a guided tour around some of the important historical buildings of old Bilborough starting at 2pm, plus a creative activity for people to share their memories of the area.

Abandoned canal walkIn search of abandoned canals

Explore the history of the old abandoned Nottingham Canal between Strelley and Trowell. Includes a pub stop before returning.

Saturday 16 August, Meet at Bulwell Bus Station at 11am, or Wigman Rd Top bus stop at 11:20am

Bulwell WalkBulwell History Walk

Uncovering the ancient street pattern, the horrors of the workhouse and the ruthless competition of the Victorian railways. Historian Chris Matthews will be giving a guided tour of the River Leen Greenway.

Old Basford walkOld Basford Trail

This walk brings to life a close-knit community at the forefront of the industrial revolution in Nottingham: bleachers, millers, hosieriers, brewing, non-conformists and a once busy bparade of shops which grew from an old street pattern of sleepy village life. Led by historian Chris Matthews.

Our History Guides…

This Summer we are also proud to present our new historical walking guide about NCT’s Number 35 bus route – you can download here – History on the #35 Bus Guide. There will also be a chance in the above events to use our fantastic walking and cycling guides Garden City and A New World.

If you’d like paper copies of the guides you can come along to one of the events, look out for them in your local library or get in touch and we’ll post them to you.
